The sociological perspective on the media that I agree with the most is technology because the whole world revolves around technology. The only way people stop their normal lives in today’s society if something technologically important that runs a building, office, or any other work place shuts down. Something that stops us from being in communication puts everyone in confusion. A terrible storm that makes most technology in a family’s house not work brings that family closer together than more than half of the days in the year. Technology keeps everyone in competition also with phones, appeal, and gadgets. You could look completely poor but if your texting on an iPhone people will think twice about you. Technology is the prime of our society and any other society and if you don’t have the newest or the latest it surely isn’t the best and you’re not number one.

As a sociologist I would say this person is big to themself and his inner circle of social networking because their mass media profile isn’t that wide. Even by the amount of internet history and visited sites they aren’t too broad. By the look of their web history which surprisingly they spend more time on the web than watching TV I would say the person is big on movement and had an important or vital place to be from all the directions that were looked up. Overall this person doesn’t spend much time social networking or looking at mass media.
Since I took record during two school days my time and priorities drifted away from mass media and my norms were based on studying and class. They effected my free time and my usual time by keeping me focused on studies and homework and just in general being in class. During the school year I’m really not big on mass media and just watch the news to try to keep up with what’s new in the world and rely on social networking with my friends to find the newest trends. Keeping my school priorities high doesn’t bother me because in the end it all pays off. People watch way too much TV anyways and it’s not really my type of thing.

Response paper 2

Discuss a time in your life when you experienced culture shock. Based on your knowledge attained in this course, what role did ethnocentrism play in this experience? What did you learn from this experience?
In a point of my life I was kicked out my house and had no other choice but to live with my uncle in Ohio. The culture shock that I had experienced moving to a white ignorant suburban society never gave me anger toward a group of people like that before in my life. Being ridiculed as a Hispanic that was looked worst upon than an African American, a Middle eastern or anything else put my mind in utter confusion. The ignorance that society had was so disturbing that they did not comprehend the fact there was different nationalities of Hispanics. Me and another kid Jalil we’re the only two Hispanics in the school and even though I am Puerto Rican and he is Colombian they categorized as “Mexicans”. He turned out to get more respect around the school campus because he was one of the prominent soccer players. It didn’t take long till I had to I had to kill their pride of ethnocentrism by showing my skills on the basketball and be their starting point guard for their 2008-2009 season.
They didn’t think Hispanics were better athletes than whites but in the end it doesn’t matter the race totally because skill and practice isn’t determined by race but by the amount of time you put into a sport. Their idea of ethnocentrism placed their white society from living in their little bubble above all other ethnicities. The most vital part of the culture shock I experienced was getting arrested by what I come to believe the most racist cop I ever came across my whole life. A simple assault charge turned into assault, and bantering misconduct to a lawed officer. Knowing I was right I fought the case and got a simple misdemeanor. After experiencing the harassment by the officer in the holding room at sixteen years of age gave me mixed views of that white community. Although growing up and becoming wiser and having more insight that there are just some people in the world you cannot change made me a better person today than that cop would ever be.

Based on the information presented in Chapters 1 and 2, in what ways do you anticipate this course and the study of sociology will contribute to your education and or relate to your career goals?

Unfortunately we live in a society of lies and competition. After reading chapters one and two just getting a touch not even the full grasp of sociology it is clear to see that in our society it is probable to say that your neighbor would step on you so they could get placed higher in life and  live more comfortably . I see this class really helping my career goals since I’m majoring in biology and plan to be a physician or something major in the medical field. How would this help me as a physician? In many cases I would overall be dealing with patients independently but in the large scale look of things I would need to look at what in the patient’s life and impact of society could be causing them stress or who are they relating with that could be contracting viruses. Looking at the macro sociological scale could help me understand what are giving my patients problems further more than the microscopic level.  Although rather more I see this class helping myself as a first year college student in adapting to knowing and relating to my peers who come from different homes, states, backgrounds, countries, or whatever the case maybe.
A term which I came across from the chapter was anomie- loss of direction felt in a society when social control of indivual behavior has become ineffective. Understanding sociology helped me sort of understand and appreciate history in my mind more and gave me gradual insight to the class. It makes you ask yourself why for every little thing. One big question that I ponder about now is how was the white society in the 1600’s okay with having slaves and not feeling unethical living their everyday life. Society - The community of people living in a particular country or region and having shared customs, laws, and organizations.
I believe that this class will also better help me read groups of people and learn how to cooperate with an uncooperative coworker in the future.  Reading about the various sociological theorists brings broad insight to different ways of how to understand how societies revolve around certain cultures, ways or practices, and just basic ways of living. This class has much to bring more to than just me as one single student studying to make his goal happen but as to give me an understanding of the class my peers and in the end wisdom of how we as a world coincide to live among once another in harmony rather than separation.
